Barn Conversions

Our main core business for many years has been barn conversions but these are now getting harder to find in their raw state and even harder to gain planning permission.
We have had experience of designing well over 100 barn conversions in a wide range of styles and locations in various different district authorities. We are very used to taking a redundant barn and providing a design that will be sympathetic to the character of the barn and yet providing the accommodation required

Past and current clients have ranged from farmers wishing to gain planning permission whilst selling the barn unconverted, to private individuals who intend living in the property for years to come.

The examples shown here are two very different barns:

Listed Stone Barn

Agricultural buildings surrounded this listed stone barn; the design is sympathetic to the original structure and yet takes advantage of it location and views. The 3D images created for this conversion clearly show the proposed barn and helped show that the external features of this fine barn remained unaltered by the conversion.

Stone & Thatch Barn

When we first saw this barn it was in a very sorry state, its roof was removed at some time in the past and replaced with an agricultural fibre cement curved roof. We were able to find proof that this barn had once been thatched and planning permission was obtained to reinstate the thatch and also create an extension on the footprint of a former outbuilding.

A 3D model was created and used in this case to prove that the increase in height of the thatch would not cause any overshadowing of the adjacent properties. The sun was correctly mapped and this allowed us to show the neighbours how much shadow the conversion would cast at any time of the day and any time of the year.
